Splin

Description

"Splin" is a famous Russian rock band from St. Petersburg, created in 1994. The frontman of the group is Alexander Vasiliev, who has become an integral part of the group from the very beginning of its existence. However, the group also includes Alexander Morozov, who plays the bass guitar, Stanislav Berezovsky, who plays the guitar part, Yan Nikolenko, who is responsible for the sound of the flute and keyboards, as well as Sergey Navetny, who plays the drums.

From the very beginning of his career, "Splin" received recognition, releasing two albums: "Dusty True" in 1994 and "Weapon Collector" in 1995. Thanks to these releases, the group became popular in St. Petersburg and gained cult status there. The next album, “Lantern Under the Eye,” released in 1997, brought “Splin” fame throughout Russia. In the same year, the group performed for the first time at MAXIDROM, where their songs “English-Russian Dictionary” and “Love Walks on the Wires” were popular on radio stations. In addition, "Splin" gave several concerts together with "Aquarium". The peak of the group's popularity came in 1998, when their album "Pomegranate" was released, which included the metro anthem "No Exit" and the song "Orbit without Sugar." Only the Mumiy Troll group was comparable to Splin in popularity. Therefore, at MAXIDROM-98 an unofficial competitive duel took place between these two teams. The performance ended in a draw, as each group had many advantages.

In 1999, "Splin" released the album "Altavista", which became a turning point in their career. Vasiliev and his team did what they wanted, and not what their fans expected, which affected their popularity. Despite the fact that the songs “Good Deeds Master”, “Pil-Kuril” and “Something Else” were included in the MAXIMUM Radio chart, the album did not cause much excitement. As a result of this, Vasiliev became very embarrassed and the group refused to perform at concerts for six months.

The next disc, "25th Frame", released by Splin, is a kind of compromise between the group's two previous albums. It contains such hits as “Let’s Stay for the Winter,” “Life Line” and a version of the song “Fellini” - another hymn to the lost generation.
